Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a powerfully effective and natural therapy for various health conditions. It has been practiced for over 4000 years in the Chinese medical tradition.  It is used by nearly one third of the world’s population as a primary health care method and is highly recommended by the World Health Organization. The principle of acupuncture is to treat each person as an integrated whole in body, mind and spirit, and to remedy the root causes of illness and disease as well as the symptoms. Acupuncture helps maintain the body in a state of harmony. It can also help to prevent disease and promote longevity.

Acupuncture practitioners use thin, sterile needles inserted superficially into specific areas of the body in order to initiate healing and promote health. Over the three decades or so in which acupuncture has developed in North America, it has been proven in a growing number of scientific studies to be both exceptionally safe when performed by licensed professionals, and statistically effective. Beneficial results of acupuncture depend on the expertise of the practitioner as well as the clinical experience.

WHAT BENEFITS WILL I RECEIVE FROM ACUPUNCTURE?

  • Relieve pain
  • Reduce stress
  • Boost immunity
  • Improve organ function
  • Prevent disease
  • Improve your overall health naturally without side effects

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?
When performed properly, acupuncture does not hurt at all. You may feel some slight pressure, numbness and tingling when the needle reaches the qi on the meridian. Acupuncture needles are very thin and practitioners should only use sterile, single use, disposable needles. If any discomfort is experienced, it is usually mild and temporary. Most people are in a deeply relaxed state when acupuncture is being performed.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I RECEIVE ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENTS?
That depends on what condition you are experiencing, how long you have been suffering from the condition, and how your body responds to treatments. In general, a cycle of seven treatments is required to begin the healing process. At the end of seven treatments the practitioner will reassess and recommend further treatment as required.
